How does the Pi Day 5K work?

Participating is easy. Sign up to participate and we'll mail you Pi Day gear. A portion of the cost of signing up is a gift supporting scholarships, conference travel, and study abroad opportunities for current students. Then, during the 14 days of Pi window, run, bike, swim, baby-jogger push with your swag and post your photo on our Kudoboard or tag us on social media. The Kudoboard is a great way to see and cheer on fellow Hokies celebrating Pi Day.

This year we are celebrating 14 days of Pi from March 1-14. Since March 14th is on a Thursday, you'll have 2 weekends and 14 days to complete your 3.14 miles and celebrate with us.

I'm not a runner. Can I participate?

Of course! The Pi Day 5k is all about getting together with Hokies and nerding out over pi. Enjoy any physical activity you want, for any distance. If you want to stir up friendly competition, share how many multiples of pi-mileage you want to cover between March 1-14.

I am not local to the Virginia Tech area. Can I still join?

Yes, you can join from wherever you are. Some Hokie families even plan a remote meetup day and time so they can celebrate Pi Day together.

I signed up. When can I expect my gear?

What's the story behind this year's design? The mountain-scape looks familar.

This year's Pi Day design was inspired by the popular Bald Knob peak view. There ain't no mountain pi enough.

Will there be an in-person event in Blacksburg?

Yes! Meet up with Dean Kevin Pitts at 3pm in front of Burruss with your Pi Day or Virginia Tech gear. Dean Pitts plans to complete a full 3.14 miles on a route of his choosing starting at 3:14pm. Any and all skill levels are welcome!

I just want to eat pie and other circular foods, can I join in?

We love seeing all the ways you celebrate Pi Day, please share on our Kudoboard!
