Summer Camp for rising 7th through 10th graders

Sunday, June 29 to Thursday, July 3 (for rising 7-8th graders) 
Sunday, July 15 to Thursday, July 17 (for rising 9-10th graders)

Campers will explore different types of sciences, including ones not normally taught in middle school or high school. Relevant, fun, hands-on activities will be taught by our nationally recognized Virginia Tech professors and staff. 

Topics may include:

  • Neuroscience—the adaptive brain!
  • DNA form and function
  • Battle of the bacteria—a game of survival
  • Paleontology—the evolution of ancient life forms
  • Serious fun with physics
  • Nanoscience and Bucky balls
  • Food microbiology
  • Crime scene investigation
  • Creative coding
  • Game theory and experimental economics
  • Craters!
  • Behavioral genetics: How our genes and our environment interact with one another

 

Cost: $1100  
Camp fees cover faculty instructional time, equipment, supplies, room and board, resident assistants and program assistants. If your child will need a scholarship to participate, please apply for one in the camp application form. Families are responsible for transportation to/from the Virginia Tech campus.

  • Crime Scene Analysis (Blood, sweat and tears)
  • Dinner
  • Group games
  • Team meetings
  • Lights out by 10 pm

Day 4

  • Breakfast
  • Psychology Games
  • Projectile prediction lab
  • Slime mold intelligence, part 3
  • Lunch
  • Duck Pond Flora
  • WAVES: Physics and music
  • Computational thinking
  • Dinner
  • Group games
  • Team meetings
  • Lights out by 10 pm 

Day 5

  • Breakfast
  • Invasive Species

  • Pack and clean rooms
