Navigating the college admissions process can be difficult: We understand that students are considering many different things as they make their choice. At the Virginia Tech College of Science, we would like to provide you with resources which help you understand the process and make your decision.

Virtual Information Session

On April 16, 2026, we will be offering a virtual information session. Samantha Hannah, our College of Science recruiter, and Jess Hoopengardner, our College of Science director of student success, will be on Zoom with current Science Hokies to share about courses, career-building opportunities, and resources for you!

Sign up for the virtual information session.

How to Pay for Your Virginia Tech Experience

Students often have questions about how they will finance their education. Our Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA) has online resources and webinars for you to explore your financial aid offer.

Virginia Tech’s Financial Aid Portal:

  • Look at your financial aid offer, which includes the awards you have been given from Virginia Tech and federal/state awards. Awards can include scholarships, grants, and loans which are offered to you. External scholarships will not be included in your financial aid package.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Offer:

  • University Scholarships and Financial Aid have a Money Matters presentation posted on their website which explains what your financial aid offer means. There will be more Money Matter sessions starting in May for incoming students!

Future Hokies Financial Aid Page:

  • All the relevant links and information you need as a future Hokie to understand your finances!

External Scholarships:

  • If you’re still looking for external scholarships (scholarships awarded by a group other than Virginia Tech), our University Scholarships and Financial Aid has a resource website for you.

Ways to Build Community on Campus

Virginia Tech offers many ways for students to build community, which helps make a large campus feel smaller. Check out these options for students!

Impact Living Learning Community:

  • Members live together in the same residential hall, engaging in both academic and social events. They welcome students who want to expand their data analytics skills and knowledge, network with data analytics faculty and professionals, work in multidisciplinary teams to solve problems using data, engage in community events, and learn leadership skills. To learn more and apply, visit their website.

GenerationOne Living Learning Community:

  • The GenerationOne Living Learning Community at Virginia Tech is a place where you can share the unique triumphs and challenges of navigating college life with your first-generation peers. Did either of your parents or guardians complete a bachelor's (4-year or higher) degree at any college or university? If not, then YOU are a first-generation student! To learn more and apply, visit their website.

Access to Opportunities & Mentoring in Science (ATOMS) Program:

  • As an incoming first year student, you are eligible to join our Access to Opportunities & Mentoring in Science (ATOMS) Program! In Virginia Tech's College of Science, we want all of our students to succeed and graduate with a science degree. Through group and one-on-one settings, our peer mentors create a safe and non-judgmental environment in order to enhance and enrich the college experience of their mentees. To sign up, students will receive an email over the summer before they arrive at Virginia Tech.

Broadening Participation in Science Programs:

  • The College of Science is committed to all of our students succeeding in science. We host a number of programs and events for students to build community, learn about leadership and research opportunities, and explore careers.
