No, they are two separate sessions and you are required to attend both sessions. We recommend not to schedule both sessions on the same day.
New Student Orientation will prepare you for life as a student on campus. You will be introduced to various resources on campus, meet other new students, be mentored by an Orientation team member, discover Hokie traditions, interact with the Hokie Community, and learn about ways to get involved.
Academic Advising/Course Registration is when you will meet with your academic advisor and discuss important information for your major and courses. This will also be a time you may make changes to your schedule and discuss any expected credits.
You should have received an email from orientation@vt.edu on October 21 or October 22 to your Virginia Tech email address with instructions on how to complete the Online Orientation Modules. If you have any questions, email orientation@vt.edu.
You will receive an email on December 6, 2024, to your Virginia Tech email address providing you instructions on how to schedule an appointment for your Academic Advising/Course Registration appointment.
Once they are received and evaluated, you can verify receipt of them in your Hokie Spa > clicking on Grades Menu > click Transfer and Other Additional Credits.
Please allow 2-3 weeks after submitting your official scores and transcripts for them to be evaluated.
Yes, you must send your official high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions once you have received your final grades.
Transfer students must also do this in order to receive credit for the foreign language requirement if you completed 2 years in high school.

Yes, your official scores must be sent to Virginia Tech from CollegeBoard by entering Virginia Tech's School Code #5859. CollegeBoard will submit them electronically to Virginia Tech.

Transfer students must also submit AP scores from CollegeBoard as your prior institution(s) transcript will not include those scores.

Yes, official transcripts for dual enrollment courses or courses taken at other universities must be submitted to Virginia Tech. Your high school does not send dual enrollment credits and you MUST request an official transcript from the university the courses were taken.

Yes, you can make adjustments to your schedule during your academic advising and course registration appointment with an academic advisor. From then, you will have until January 27, 2025, to make adjustments to your schedule.
Please consult with an academic advisor before you drop a class you need for your major as you may not be able to re-enroll due to space limitation or restrictions.
